Swimming Lessons

Lessons run for 5 x 1 hr sessions.

  • Please arrive 10 minutes before the start of lesson.
  • Please bring with you swimming costume / towel and any swimming aids that are normally used.
  • Long hair must be either tied back or swimming hats used at all times.
  • Lessons are subject to change due to this being a Swimming Teacher training programme.

 


Stage 1 & 2
Qualification: Non Swimmers
4 years plus

Needs aids, lacks water confidence, little or no travel on front or back.

Needs aids but can travel up to 5 metres front and or back. Has basic water confidence.

Stage 3
Qualification: Beginners
Can swim front paddle / back paddle 5 metres with no aids, can use noodle or floats, able to jump in.

Stage 4 & 5
Qualification: Advanced Beginner / Improver
Can swim basic front crawl, backcrawl with understanding of breaststroke kick and be able to swim 10metres.

Or can swim Frontcrawl / backcrawl / basic breaststroke will learn basic butterfly.

Stage 6 & 7
Qualification: Advanced Beginner / Improver
Can swim Frontcrawl / backcrawl / breaststroke as well as basic butterfly, start to learn basic diving able to swim 20metres.

Or can swim frontcrawl / backcrawl / breaststroke basic butterfly, develop basic diving able to swim 25metres plus.

Adults
Qualification: Adult Beginner
16 years plus, Can swim basic front crawl, backcrawl with understanding of breaststroke kick and be able to swim 10metres.

National Rescue Award for Swimming Teachers & Coaches - Renewal
Qualification: NRASTC - Renewals (must be in date)
The National Rescue Award for Swimming Teachers & Coaches course is considered to be a suitable level of expertise for anyone who teaches or coaches a programmed aquatic activity. Current Health and Safety guidelines put the responsibility for life guarding onto the authority in charge of the pool, however teachers and coaches are strongly advised to hold this certificate and keep it up to date. The NRASTC qualification also counts as CPD points towards an ASA/UKCC Teacher/Coach license.

The NRASTC course is a one day course from 9.00 - 17.00 with the qualification lasting for two years and First Aid lasting 3 years.
